KnNw starts of lighthearted, then gradually increases tension, then jumps, then cools down. It tries to subvert audience expectation by choosing a different "story climax" development. What happened was the setting was too grounded in reality for it to feel like this kind of stuff was possible. Taki and Mitsuha were given a bizarre scenario to work with, but the audience were able to follow along because we are shown their backgrounds (Also, the aesthetic that was used to present Japan's city and country was like 10/10) and are able to emotionally invest in them. They were business partners that somehow developed feelings for each other. Their relationship wasn't really built on the unfiltered emotional exchange that happened in Kimi no Na wa. The movie was trying to show how much the male protagonist was willing to go in order to meet the girl, but what happened instead was that he ruined the lives of everyone. The protagonist in Tenki no Ko is an idiot. Although I respect your decision and opinion, I personally disagree. Many people believe Knnw is better in every way, but from a lot of people I’ve talked to it’s just since knnw was what did it first for them.

Every time I have watched knnw with someone, I always need to answer their questions and explain it, while when I went to watch tenki no ko with my mom, she absolutely loved it and understood everything. I also think Tenki no ko is easier to watch with people who haven’t watched anime.

I personally prefer the Tenki No Ko soundtrack, as the songs meant way more to me and added more to the movie imo. Multiple scenes made me feel like I was going to break down in the theatre. While I enjoyed both, Tenki No Ko was slightly more impactful to me. While Mitsuha and Taki are in no way “boring,” they don’t change/develop as much in my opinion. Tenki No Ko is, in my opinion, hugely character driven, while Kimi No Na Wa is more about the story behind it. I feel like the movies are too different to compare.
